
Skeetchestn Natural Resources Development
About the Community: The Skeetchestn First Nation is located in the Deadman's Creek valley along Highway # 1 about 60 kilometres from Kamloops, BC. The community is situated on 400 acres of land adjacent to Deadman's Creek and east of the Thompson River. The on reserve population totals 400 people. Community Assets include a community school, community hall / recreation complex and a Pow Wow Abour. The Band also has a development corporation that operates a gas station / store on reserve lands adjacent to Highway # 1 and has a joint venture company with a local 'major licensee' forestry company.
Inside View of Round House. Post & Beam construction provides open space through interior. This model is 960 square feet with an 8 foot outer wall and the ceiling rises to 14 feet with a skylight in the centre.

Round House with open windows. This one will be used for an Eco-Tourism information booth. Other uses could include concession stands at ball parks, rodeo grounds and fishing camps or hiker, biker & horse back rider overnight shelters along eco-tourism routes.
Portable sawmill set up on reserve to add value to salvaged pine beetle wood. Beams and boards produced at this mill are used in construction of 'Round House'.

Lumber, cut from salvaged Pine Beetle infested trees is covered and air dried until needed for construction

The community has a value for horses and this has led to some people being interested in Horse logging. Landscape (Hill sides, creek, Horses, School, Community Hall & Pow Wow Arbour.

Log Cabin Built in Skeetchestn community, transported and reassembled to establish an Eco-Tourism Base Camp in alpine meadow area.
Eco Tourism Base Camp. This Alpine Meadow site has 3 log Cabins for accommodation. A Log Cook Shack is being built in the Village and will be transported and reassembled at the Base Camp to support food service and cultural entertainment and experiences for tour groups.
